If you can make it to one of their stores to pick one out yourself, you won't regret it.

I mailed the forms in March 29th. Haven't heard back from the CMP yet, but it seems that expected delivery takes about 6 weeks.
Here's hoping.

Garand at local fun store
Saw an H&R at the local just last week that seemed to be in decent shape, but its price tag just said to "ask for price" Ruh roh.
So, I convinced one of the salesman to come over just as soon as he's finished trying to foist a used SW40VE on some unsuspecting nogunz.
First of all he didn't know the difference between the various manufacturers, thought they were all made by Springfield, couldn't close the bolt, and then came back with a $1100 price - but said that he could get one of the guys to drill and tap for free if I were to pay full price. He also couldn't answer what grade it was in, sounded like he'd never even heard of Rack, Field or Service (I just wanted to get a general idea of the differences IRL).
I don't think it was a mixmaster, but even though the furniture seemed to be in pretty good condition, I don't have enough experience (read: none) with rifles to even give an uneducated guess.
He left to put the finishing touches on the Sigma sale, and wouldn't budge from $310 including 1 ten round mag - the guy said he'd think about it. I came up to the no-sale customer in the parking lot and gave him a list of online sales sites, and described my experience with a Sigma, and that if he still really wanted one, some of the trigger fixes he could do in 10 minutes. Turned out he was just fucking with them, and just wanted to get a sense of the store's competence.
This is why brick and mortar stores are folding left and right. These jakels are trying to earn a mortgage payment with each sale, and this is the only decently stocked store within 60 miles of me that I can go in and fingerfuck their fuddtastic collection, especially a sweeeeet looking Rossi Ranch Hand .44.
Don't even get me started on the duracoted, plasticted M-1 I saw there.

Re: so.. Garand time.
I mailed in my information to the CMP about a week ago. I paid with a personal check so it might be an extra 14 days over the usual 30-60. I ordered a Service Grade Springfield Garand, a standard bayonet, and 200 rounds of Greek surplus ball ammo.

Nice.
I'm probably going to order one once I get the money. that'll probably be a few months, but hey, whatever. Can't wait though.
Re: so.. Garand time.
This summer as soon as I collect a paycheck from a summer job I will get a garand and do a range test and post pictures. Damn college keeping me from working for ammo and gun money.
